Sixty teachers of English as a foreign language from various schools of the Penza region completed the refresher course at the Teachers’ Institute of Penza State University in foreign language practice and methodology of teaching.
After the final assessment test twelve best teachers were determined who will have a training course in Sussex, the UK. The participants are the teachers from secondary schools of various towns, urban settlements and smaller villages of the Penza region.
The course at Penza State University included foreign language communication classes and language teaching classes. The latter encompassed several important aspects: teaching for school exams, advanced technologies in education, use of IT in the classroom, requirements of national standars for foreign language learning and teaching. The course participants attended the lectures and workshops of leading specialists in the sphere of FLT, as well as the professor of Aston University and Coast College, UK.
On completing the course, the participants took a final assessment test that was composed of the written part and the interview. The written part tested the level of communicative competences according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The interview included foreign language speaking tasks and the problem-solving task in foreign language teaching, where the participants had to choose the best methods and techniques for specific learning situations.
