Member of the RF Ministry of Agriculture Petr Chekmarev (director of the Department of Plant Growing, Engineering, Use of Chemicals and Plant Protection) listed the Penza region in the top ten of best horticultural regions in Russia at the conference in Ingushetia.
The Penza region is one of the leaders in the numbers of new fruit and veg gardens, as well as building the facilities for storage and processing.
According to the regional Ministry of Agriculture, the total area of fruit and veg farms amounts to 2.5 thousand ha in the Penza region. In 2018 the government support to fruit and veg growers totalled 124.5 milion roubles.
