The governor Ivan Belozertsev and the director general of “Novaport” OJSC Sergey Rudakov discussed the implementation of an airport reconstruction project and the possibility of handing the airport of Penza over to the investment conditions department.
“For the last four years the passenger traffic at Penza airport has more than doubled: from 75,4 thousand of passengers in 2014 to 181,5 thousand of passengers in 2018. During the next 5 years it is prospected to increase the traffic by 15% annually. It is important for us to build a modern, comfortable and secure facility with proper traffic capacity” – noted Ivan Belozertsev.
The project of new airport construction was discussed in January 2019 at the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. The Ministry of Transport of Russia was instructed to study a possibility of the project implementation, including the mechanisms of public-private partnership.
“Penza’s airport has broad prospects. The level of airfield maintenance is high, the condition of airstrips is excellent. It is your heritage and clear advantage, - pointed out Sergey Rudakov. – After the airport’s reconstruction the passenger traffic will be possible to increase up to 700 000 people per year”.
Sergey Rudakov spoke about various options of increasing a number of destinations from Penza, including cities of Siberia, prospects of international flights to popular destinations, Turkey in particular.
The director general of “Novaport” OJSC made some remarks and suggestions to the proposed airport project.
Ivan Belozertsev and Sergey Rudakov discussed a possibility of extending the depth of the airport for passengers and personnel’s comfort, joining the new building with the existing warm gallery, the design of new boarding bridges.
The parties also considered conditions of handing Penza airport over to the department.
“Novaport” is the largest network of regional airports in Russia holding and/or managing the controlling block of shares of 14 regional airports: Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk, Volgograd, Tomsk, Astrakhan, Chita, Tyumen, Perm, Kemerovo, Murmansk, Mineralnye Vody, Kaliningrad, Ulan-Ude, Vladikavkaz, as well as non-controlling interests (48-49%) of airports in Barnaul and Stavropol.
The airport of Penza was founded in 1934, the passenger terminal was built in 1963 and reconstructed in 2003. The airstrip was prolonged and the passenger platform was overhauled.
Today, Penza airport is an airport of federal importance and possesses capacity to receive all types of passenger planes except Boeing 747 and Airbus A380.
