Head of the regional office of volunteers’ search for the remains of the fallen in military operaions and member of the search team from Penza are taking part in ‘Remembering the Fallen 2018’ meeting in Kaluga.
The first meeting of the searchers from various parts of the country took part in 1998, since that time the movement was spreading across the country.
This year already 71 teams from different regions of Russia are participating in the meeting, where they share the results and discuss further plans.
Although more than sixty years have passed from the last military operations of the bloodiest war in history, there remain soldiers and officers whose fate is unknown. Modern science allows to identify the remains with outstanding accuracy and the memory of the fallen and their dignity are preserved.
Thus, the medal ‘For Courage’ will be given to the relatives of the fallen soldier Savelii Yakushko, born in the Altai region. His remains were found in the area of extensive fighting of 1944 in Belarus in summer this year.
Head of Penza office of volunteers’ search teams Larisa Kazakova will hand over the medal to her colleague from the Altai region Galina Buimova, to be given to the descentants of the fallen hero, his grand- and great-grandchildren.
