The Council of the Penza regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society held the first extended meeting (after the abolishment of restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic) in the Green Wave environmental centre located in the building of the Literary Museum.
Traditionally the event was opened by Igor Pantyushov, Chairman of the RGO Penza regional branch, who thanked the audience and summed up the results of the branch's activities during the period of restrictions.
"We postponed many mass events, such as youth festivals, competitions, and round tables, and held them online with considerable social effect. On the Victory Day eve our members took part in the Memorial Watch at Post #1 at the Eternal flame. We have also been and still are conducting large-scale environmental and educational, scientific activities – the field season of expeditions, press tours and Green Patrols' activities has begun within the framework of the Green Wave movement; the Green Meridian club is actively working with representatives of the older generation, - Igor Pantyushov said.
He noted the importance of the Social Monitoring Centre, which has been established at the RGO to support self-isolated pensioners and has helped hundreds of them.
The agenda also includes events to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Russian Geographical Society and to hold a General Meeting of the branch dedicated to the upcoming 16th RGO Congress.
