The issues of advanced teacher training, the results of the heating season in 2017/2018, the tasks of preparing housing and utilities infrastructure and social and cultural facilities for the next autumn-winter period, and several other topics were considered on Wednesday, 23 May 2018.
The meeting was chaired by Nikolay Simonov, Head of the regional Cabinet of Ministers.
According to Aleksandr Voronkov, Minister of Education of the Penza region, approximately 10 million roubles are annually allocated to upgrade skills of Penza teaching staff. This work is producing some positive results, i.e. the knowledge indicators of schoolchildren in the region are greater than the average Russian rates.
In the Penza region, the professional development of teachers is carried out at two major sites. They are the Institute for Regional Development of the Penza region and V.G. Belinsky Institute of Teacher Education of Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education Penza State University.
By the order of the governor, work with school teachers is aimed at adopting modern educational programmes and making specific advances.
In 2017, on the initiative of the head of the region, the professional development programme for foreign language teachers from rural areas was implemented for the first time. This programme included the internship abroad. 60 teachers completed intensive advanced training courses, in which native speakers were engaged.
By 2022, the English language will be listed among the compulsory subjects of the Unified State Examination. In this regard, special attention is devoted to the competences of foreign language teachers, especially in rural schools.
The current priority is to train engineering personnel for the Russian economy. The Concept of Developing Mathematics Education in the Russian Federation is designed to solve this problem at the national level.
In the Penza region, a programme of improving professional skills of mathematics teachers is being developed in accordance with the instructions of the head of the region. It should be launched in September this year.
In addition, more than 20 psychological and pedagogical offices were opened in the region following the order of the governor.
