“Venzalya” folk art choreographic group (artistic director – honoured worker of culture of Russia Larisa Alekseeva) performed in “Penzaconcert” on April 18th.
Founded in 1934, this year the group turned 85 years old. At the present time it consists of 40 dancers from 17 to 30 years old. The group’s repertoire includes over 50 compositions. 37 of them represent dances of various Russian regions, including Penza, Tambov, Smolensk, Bryansk, Belgorod, Astrakhan and other.
The group received anniversary greetings from a deputy chairman of the Regional Government Oleg Yagov, the Minister of Culture and Tourism Tatyana Kurdova, a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of Penza region Yana Kuprina, the head of the municipal department of culture Vera Feygina.
Oleg Yagov thanked the group for long years of serving the art, for preserving and augmenting best choreographic traditions of Russia and Penza region. He presented the artistic director Larisa Alekseeva and the group’s dancers with honorary rewards. The anniversary evening continued with a concert that was a real treat to the lovers of choreographic arts.
The audience contemplated group dances, quadrilles from different regions of Russia, folk dances, round dances, solos, ritual dances as well as numbers based on ethnographic material.
