On the instructions of the Governor, implementing the plan for preparing and holding events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, one thousand copies of the new volume “Memory. Penza Oblast”were published.
Let us remind you that the ten-volume book of the same name, published in the mid-1990s, is now available to Penza libraries' readers. However, work on the documents didn't stop.
In 2009 the 11th volume of the Book, modified and expanded, appeared. Eight years ago the staff of the Penza Oblast state archive began working on the 12th additional volume. It combined more than 8 thousand names of fighters, most of which were revealed for the first time, and havenever been published before.
"These people are our fellow countrymen who were called to the front from other cities, and natives of the Union republics who died of wounds in Penza hospitals and were buried in the region," Oleg Yagov, Deputy Chairman of the regional Government, explained.
The additional 12th volume, like the previous one, consists of two parts. The first one includes 4653 newly discovered names of soldiers who did not return from the war of 1941-1945, while the second one contains clarified data about the fighters already named in previous volumes. Clarifications relate to biographical information, places of death and burial, and establishing the fate of the missing. This part contains 3536 names.
"Every name and every piece of information about the heroes who defended the independence of our country is important for us," - Governor Ivan Belozertsev said commenting on this topic.
"The staff of the Penza state archive carried out a difficult labour-consuming work. We are very grateful to all who took part in the preparation and release of the Book of Memory," - he said.
