On March 20, the State Archive of the Penza Oblast opens an online exhibition dedicated to the 95th anniversary of an outstanding Soviet state and public figure and local historian Georg Myasnikov.
The Committee for Archives of the Penza Oblast warmly supported the idea of holding an online exhibition dedicated to G. Myasnikov, which was debated a lot at a meeting of the Committe's methodological commission.
It is symbolic that the anniversary date is in 2021 that is the Year of Cultural and Spiritual Heritage of the Penza Oblast. People will always remember George Myasnikov for his enthusiastic initiatives to preserve and enhance the cultural and historical heritage of the Penza Oblast.
For example, the Museum of One Picture, which is a symbol of Penza, was establised at his instigation; during his work as the second secretary of the Penza Regional Committee of the CPSU, the Kuprin Museum, the Malyshkin Museum, the Meyerhold Museum, the Literary Museum, as well as many museums in the region's districts were opened. Thanks to Georg Myasnikov, monumental architecture also actively developed during that period: a monument to the First Settler, a monument to D. Davydov and a number of other cultural sites appeared. It is when he was in power that the Rampart on Kirov Street was reconstructed.
The core of the exhibition will be copies of original archival documents from the funds of the Penza State Archive. The exhibition includes several thematic sections.
The first one includes documents related to Myasnikov's official activities: those on the celebration of the 300th anniversary of Penza, the restoration of the Tarkhany Estate Museum, as well as his correspondence with archaeologists and museum workers.
The second section presents the manuscripts of his articles and research (with the author's autograph) on the history of the founding of Penza, including the book The Fortress City of Penza.
The third section consists of G. Myasnikov's photos and those of cultural objects, which were restored thanks to him.
The fourth section includes photos from G. Myasnikov's personal collection, as he was an active collector of old photos and documents on the Penza Oblast history.
The exhibition is designed for a wide range of visitors, in particular for school and university students. The presented documents will help visitors to create a fairly complete picture of G. Myasnikov's activities on the development of Penza culture and museum business.
