The opening ceremony of the XIII Russian Film Festival "Male Role" named after Ivan Mozzhukhin took place on December 1 in the "Penza" Cinema Concert Hall. During the five days of the festival, Penza residents will see the best feature and documentary Russian films released over the past two years.
Vladimir Karpov, the Penza Oblast Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, greeted the participants and guests during the opening of the festival, "I am glad that our festival does not lose its significance among other annual cinematic events in Russia. On the contrary, it is developing more and more, it gives the region's residents an opportunity to see even more wonderful films and it becomes a way to success for many actors in the country, because it is after recognition at the "Male Role" Film Festival that the winners receive awards at other major festivals."
On the first day of the festival, the spectators were happy to attend a creative meeting with Sergey Nikonenko, Soviet and Russian actor, film director and screenwriter, President of the Guild of Film Actors of Russia and People's Artist of the RSFSR. As a master of the Russian film school of acting, he was awarded the special prize of the film festival - "The King of the Screen". In Penza Sergey Nikonenko performed on stage an excerpt from Aleksandr Tvardovsky's poem Vasily Tyorkin.
The Penzakontsert performers - the Premiere string quartet and Anastasia Sudneva (piano), prepared a creative gift for the guests of the opening ceremony.
The festival's main screening began with Ivan's Happiness (2020) directed by Ivan Sosnin.
In addition, this year, viewers will be shown such films as Esau (2019) by Pavel Lungin, The Seventh Run Along The Contour Of The Globe (2019) by Vitaly Suslin, Nuuccia (2021) by Vladimir Munkuyev, Ivan Denisovich (2021) by Gleb Panfilov, The Case (2021) by Aleksey German Jr., Deeper! (2020) by Mikhail Segal, The Three (2020) by Anna Melikyan and Call Me Thrush (2020) by Pavel Mirzoyev.
The stars of the Russian cinema – Konstantin Khabensky, Philipp Yankovsky, Aleksandr Pal, Kirill Kyaro - will compete for the title of best actor.
The professional jury of the festival was headed by Yusup Razykov, Uzbek and Russian film director and screenwriter, Honoured Artist of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In addition, on December 5 – at the closing ceremony of the festival – the Hope award will be given to the best young actor, and a prize from the audience jury Gentleman of Cinema will also be awarded to a winner.

The XIII Open Ivan Mozzhukhin "Male Role" Film Festival is held with the support of the Penza Oblast Government.
