The Samarkand Regional Russian Drama Theater is performing for the first time on the stage of the Penza Regional Drama Theater named after A.V. Lunacharsky. This is one of the oldest theaters in Uzbekistan, with a history dating back to 1876, possessing a rich repertoire and having received numerous prestigious awards and nominations at international festivals.
"Today marks a historic event as the friendship between our theater and Samarkand's theater begins. We are happy to host them and eagerly await the return visit," shared Sergei Kazakov, Artistic Director of the regional drama theater.
Aleksandr Minayev, Head of the regional cultural institution, noted that the Samarkand Theater's tour in Penza takes place on the initiative of Governor Oleg Melnichenko. Recall that in April of this year, Oleg Melnichenko and Adiz Boboyev signed an interregional cooperation agreement in education, culture, sports, and youth policy.
In our region, the Samarkand Regional Russian Drama Theater will present performances with an oriental flavor: the adult comedy "Five Wives of Nasreddin" (18+) and the oriental fairy tale for young visitors "The Capricious Princess" (6+).
Prior to the performance, a meeting took place involving Aleksandr Plotnikov, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Governor of Penza Oblast and Representative of Penza Oblast in the Republic of Uzbekistan; Ildar Mavlyudov, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of Penza Oblast; Aleksandr Minayev, Director of the Penza Drama Theater; and Sergei Kazakov, Artistic Director of the Penza Drama Theater, with the director and actors of the Samarkand Theater.
The heads of the institutions, Aleksandr Minayev and Sharofiddin Sodykov, signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of international cultural exchange and the development of theatrical art.
In 2023-2024, thanks to the national project "Culture," whose successor is the national project "Family," the theater's material and technical base was updated with new modern equipment, which was appreciated by the guests from the Republic of Uzbekistan.
"We have already had a chance to see your theater; we really liked it here. A large stage, the latest technology: lighting and sound equipment, a revolving stage. It is very pleasant to be here; everything is convenient for both the artists and the visitors," shared Eldar Gasanov, an actor of the Samarkand Theater.
In November of this year, the Penza Drama Theater will make a return visit to Samarkand. Uzbek audiences will see the drama "The Dawns Here Are Quiet..." (12+), dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and the children's play "The Princess and the Pea" (6+). The tour of our theater is also organized with the support of Governor Oleg Melnichenko.
