Penza region entered the top 10 Russian regions most actively collaborating with China

Penza region entered the top 10 regions in the rating called “The race of regions: who will be the first to attract investors, tourists and customers from China”, prepared by iMARS group.

Apart from Penza, the rating included Novosibirsk and Astrakhan regions, Krasnoyarsk and Orenburg regions. The regions were estimated by the results of a desk research, collection of data from open sources and by the results of surveying the experts of regional development within the structure of regional executive bodies of each region.

The rating method was based on the iMARS’ own practical experience in facilitating projects with China. At some stages, iMARS attracted experts from leading analytical companies. For the rating, the indicators were divided into four categories: communicative readiness of state regional institutions of development in charge of region’s communications in China; region’s business activity in China; region’s activity in Chinese mass media; digital activity in Chinese social networks.

In 2018, the turnover between Penza region and China totaled 68,3 million dollars. At the present time, Penza region actively exports confectionary and sugar, cocoa and its derivatives, vegetable oil, timber, electrical machines and other goods to China. The main regional exporting companies are “Vanyushkiny sladosti”, “Zenit”, “Okhrannaya tekhnika”.

Penza region have attracted several Chinese companies to work in its territory, for example «Shemysheyka production plant» (parent company - Beijing Zhongnengda Electrical Engineering company) implementing a project of crop cultivating and processing in Shemysheyka and Gorodishche districts and a project of mushroom plant construction in Shemysheyka district (growing royal pleurotus).

“Technocord” company is planning to implement a project of a plant for deep processing of wheat with the total capacity of 275 thousand tons in Serdobsk district on the premises of “Serdobskiy” industrial park. It is planned to attract one of the largest grain processing companies in China, «COFCO BIO», to be a technological partner. 

Also, jointly with Chinese partners, Penza region implements projects on vegetable indoor and outdoor growing, timber processing, and cement production.
