A field meeting was held to discuss questions related to the construction of a bridge over river Sura in the alignment of Bakunina Street. The works are underway as part of the "Safe and High-quality Roads" national project.
Aleksey Adamenkov, head of the construction sight, which Avtodoroga OOO is in charge of, stressed the fact that the metal structures of the bridge had already been erected. "Three abutments have been put onto the underwater parts, and another one is being installed," he said.
Igor Umnov, head of the city Department of Capital Construction, emphasised that the reconstruction of the bridge structure is going according to the approved schedule, which is provided for by the municipal contract. "About 80 percent of works on the bridge has been completed," he added.
The head of the Department of Capital Construction explained that after the reconstruction, the bridge will have pedestrian zones, a bike path and three lanes of 3.75 meters each. In the future, it is possible to divide the road into four lanes, taking into account the prospect of traffic heaviness and the characteristics of the bridge.
In addition, the meeting discussed the possibility of reconstructing the passage under the railway behind the Bakuninsky Bridge. "Currently, we and the owner – Russian Railways – are considering the possibility of increasing the size of the existing passage and expanding it to four lanes," - said Igor Umnov.
It is scheduled to resume traffic on the Bakuninsky Bridge on September 1 this year. The service life of the bridge will be 50 years.
