Oleg Melnichenko and Oleg Prozorov discussed issues of economic cooperation on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
The business negotiations were attended by members of the regional government and heads of the Penza Oblast industrial enterprises. The Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce was represented by Emmanuel Geronnez, Customs Adviser of the Ministry of Finance of Belgium, Gerard Seghers, trade representative of the Walloon region, and heads of European companies.
Opening the meeting, the acting head of the Penza Oblast noted that the development of trade and economic relations and direct contacts between the regions of different countries are an important factor of mutual understanding and constructive cooperation between the states.
"Creating and strengthening businesses, including international ones, means creating new jobs, developing territories, and raising the standard of living of citizens. As the head of an administrative of the Russian Federation and as a patriot of my small motherland, I support a dialogue between the government and the business community," Oleg Melnichenko stressed.
"Let me remind you that the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Penza Oblast and the Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce in Russia was signed in 2018 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. We consider this Forum as a key platform for conducting international dialogue. In February 2021, an additional agreement to this document was adopted. I aim at observing the agreements reached and implementing them," he said.
The Acting Governor clarified that the participation of the Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce in Russia member companies in today's business mission provides them an opportunity to get acquainted with our region's potential. And the Penza Oblast business community should find reliable partners for the implementation of significant joint projects. Moreover, the spheres of business interests of both parties are mostly the same.
Oleg Melnichenko emphasised that the Penza Oblast is an industrial region, and informed about the development of the economy there.
"The industrial production index for 2020 was 107.3%, so we took the 1st place in the Volga Federal District and the 9th in the Russian Federation," the Acting Governor said.
"The industry in the Penza Oblast is the production of machinery and equipment, radio electronics, wood processing and manufacturing of wood products, as well as the production of ready-prepared food," he explained.
Oleg Melnichenko also cited statistics confirming the success of agricultural development, and stressed the high scientific, technical and human resources potential of the Penza Oblast. He announced the indicator of the investments volume in fixed assets for the past year, which is 94.7 billion rubles.
