On September 13, 2021, the RF Ministry of Agriculture discussed the forage and succulents conservation for the winter period of 2021-2022. The conference call with the regions was chaired by Dzhambulat Khatuov, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia.

Currently, the conservation campaign in the country is getting to the end. It is noted that in all categories of the country's farms, 23 million tons of bulky feed units have been harvested, with 19.8 million tons of forage, including 10.9 million tons of hay, 7.3 million tons of haylage and 1.6 million tons of straw. 3.4 million tons of green mass were laid for silage.

During the meeting, Dzhambulat Khatuov noted some regions' work on conserving feed, and the Penza Oblast was mentioned among the leaders. "Work is ahead of schedule in the Stavropol Territory, Moscow, Lipetsk, Irkutsk, Penza, Kemerovo, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara and Volgograd Oblasts and the Republic of Buryatia."

In the Penza Oblast, forage crops occupy 120.5 thousand hectares. As of the reporting date, 349.1 thousand tons of hay, 310.5 thousand tons of haylage, 191 thousand tons of straw and 137 thousand tons of silage were harvested in the region's farms.

In general, the pace of forage harvesting, as well as the existence of shifting residues, are enough to fully meet the existing need for the winter stall keeping of farm animals in 2021-2022.
