A working meeting between Oleg Melnichenko and Shin Hong Chol took place at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday, June 17, 2022.
At the beginning of the business negotiations, Shin Hong Chol thanked the head of the Penza Oblast for the opportunity to discuss the prospects of cooperation.
"I would like to congratulate you on the fact that, despite the difficult international situation, the 25th International Economic Forum has opened in St. Petersburg. We know that Russian people have achieved great success in protecting the sovereignty and ensuring the security of their country, overcoming all kinds of challenges and difficulties," said the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the DPRK to the Russian Federation.
"We fully support the Russian Federation and all measures that are being taken in connection with the events in Ukraine. We have repeatedly stated that Russia's special military operation in Ukraine is an inevitable choice to ensure the security of the state and the life of your people," he added.
Shin Hong Chol also recalled the history of the development of relations between Russia and North Korea, specifying that at all times the peoples of the two countries have supported each other, upholding the principles of equality and justice. He confirmed the prospects for expanding cooperation at a high level, in accordance with the requirements of the new era. He also expressed readiness to support the implementation of joint projects with the Penza Oblast.
Oleg Melnichenko confirmed that the relations between our country and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are consistent, constructive, and based on mutual respect for national interests.
"Russia is a traditional trade partner of the DPRK. Of course, international sanctions and restrictions complicate the development of economic ties," Oleg Melnichenko stated, adding that North Korea has enormous experience in resisting external pressure.
"They are trying to apply the same policy of multi-vector deterrence to the Russian Federation," the head of the regional executive authority stressed. – But in fact, the forming an alternative world has been launched. And today's St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is a vivid example of this. Representatives of both Africa and Southeast Asia gathered here. Here are representatives of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China. The delegations of Venezuela and Latin America. And this is the new alternative world."
Oleg Melnichenko pointed out the importance of strengthening political and economic cooperation between the countries of these regions of the world.
"I think the potential for such cooperation is quite good in the regions of the Russian Federation. Penza Oblast is an industrial and agrarian region. And I invite you, Comrade Ambassador, to the Penza Oblast. We are ready to show the potential of our region and develop an appropriate roadmap for cooperation between the Penza Oblast and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Therefore, we are waiting for you on the Penza land," the governor said.
Shin Hong Chol thanked the Governor for the invitation, support of the North Korean people and solidarity in the struggle for independence. He confirmed his intention to establish cooperation in various fields.
