The first container train left from the Penza-2 station to Harbin since the beginning of the pandemic restrictions. It consists of 82 containers loaded with 1800 tons of sunflower oil. The oil was produced at the oil-mill Penzensky, which is part of the RusGrain Russian-Chinese agro-industrial group.
The project to create the Penza-Harbin logistics center has been underway in the region since 2021. The goal is to develop direct trade relations between Penza producers and consumers in Central China.
"Now we are building logistics facilities at the Lunino and Penza-2 railway stations. Early in 2023, a lease agreement was signed for a site at the Penza-2 station for a temporary cargo customs warehouse. This will be the first such warehouse in the region," said Almaz Khakimov, Minister of Economic Development and Industry of the Penza Oblast.
The Chinese side states that vegetable oils, wheat and corn flour, dry dairy products, and corn are the most popular Russian products.
Despite the fact that deliveries are already underway (74 containers with various products were delivered from China to Penza in the second half of last year), the hub will begin to function fully only by 2024.
"The full implementation of the project, of course, will significantly increase the volume of cargo turnover in our region," Almaz Khakimov stressed.
