The Russian delegation headed by Russian President Vladimir Putin visited China as the first foreign trip after taking office as head of state following the March elections.
Commenting on the trip, Oleg Melnichenko stressed that China is the most important strategic partner of the Russian Federation. The Penza Oblast develops and strengthens cooperation with the People's Republic of China.
"Interregional cooperation is the most important trend set by our heads," Oleg Melnichenko said. Last year, our delegation paid a business visit to China. An agreement was signed between the government of the Penza Oblast and the People's Government of Shaanxi Province. At the end of April, we hosted a delegation of the Shaanxi People's Government headed by governor Zhao Gang in Penza. We will strengthen cooperation, working for the benefit of our regions. We have a lot to learn from each other."
China ranks first among importing countries to the Penza Oblast. China accounts for more than 11% of the total share of our region's exports. In 2023, foreign trade turnover with the People's Republic of China increased by 63%. Exports have almost doubled, and imports increased by almost 60% compared to 2022. The share of agricultural products exports and foodstuffs from the Penza Oblast to China has also almost doubled (turkey meat for more than 80%, confectionary for 11%, sunflower oil for more than 8%).
