A meeting between Vice-Governor of Penza Oblast Sergei Fedotov and Minister-Counselor of the Russian Embassy in the People's Republic of China Sergei Kramintsev took place in Beijing.
Sergei Fedotov reported that the region aims to develop relations with China within the framework of friendship and strategic cooperation policy, strengthening trade and economic ties between regions and municipalities.
"We participated in the VI Russian-Chinese Small and Medium Business Forum, attended thematic sessions on agriculture and industry, where we presented Penza Oblast's economic potential, and invited representatives of the business community from Chinese provinces to participate in education and training projects," informed Sergei Fedotov. "The forum's events and meetings with leadership of Chinese provincial People's Governments are of great importance for our region."
China holds first place among foreign nations in terms of trade turnover with Penza Oblast, ranking first in imports to the region and third in exports. Over the first eight months of this year, trade turnover reached 8.2 billion rubles (exports: 1.5 billion rubles, imports: 6.7 billion rubles).
Since the beginning of the year, four visits by Chinese delegations to Penza Oblast have taken place, including enterprise tours and negotiations. On six occasions, including this week's events, a Penza Oblast delegation has traveled to China, resulting in a series of agreements in business and industry sectors.
Sergei Fedotov noted that expanding trade turnover with Chinese regions requires development of transport and logistics infrastructure. In 2019, the Russian-Chinese "Penza-Harbin" project was established, involving the launch of regular rail container trains on the "Penza-Harbin" and "Harbin-Penza" routes.
"Currently, it is possible to resume the direct chartered train project. For exports from Penza Oblast, food and confectionery products are offered. Five major regional producers can export food products to China. I request your consideration for possible assistance with this project," the Vice-Governor addressed the Minister-Counselor of the Russian Embassy in China.
Sergei Fedotov emphasized that significant importance is also placed on strengthening strategic partnership in youth policy. "I am convinced this serves to strengthen friendship and cooperation with the People's Republic of China," he concluded.
