Oleg Melnichenko Names Strengthening International Ties as One of the Key Objectives

Foreign economic activity and plans for developing cooperation were discussed at a meeting of the Penza Region Government. "Increasing export volumes is a strategically important task for Russia, set by the President. This work aims to strengthen the economy, enhance competitiveness, and increase international influence," noted the governor, emphasizing that the Penza Region is contributing to the development of the national economy.
As reported to the head of the region by the Minister of Economic Development and Industry, Roman Tryalin, at the end of last year, the foreign trade turnover of the Penza Region reached 46.5 billion rubles (export growth to the previous year was 2%). Export structure was dominated by food products, timber and pulp and paper products, and machinery and equipment. The geography of supplies includes over 70 countries. The main importers of Penza products are Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Benin, China, and Kyrgyzstan.
The governor noted that at the end of 2025, the Penza Region was among the top 5 regions of the Russian Federation with the best conditions for export development. "This assessment is for the work we are doing within the framework of the national project 'International Cooperation and Export'," emphasized Oleg Melnichenko. "The rating, compiled by the Russian Export Center, is based on indicators of export supplies, enterprise support, and the work of export development institutions."
The governor stressed that the Penza Region is building international ties in accordance with long-term socio-economic development objectives and set the task of strengthening cooperation.
A business delegation from the Penza Region will participate in the VI International Industrial Exhibition "Innoprom. Central Asia", which will take place in Tashkent, the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan, from April 20 to 22.
This year also saw the scheduling of business missions to Ulaanbaatar and Bishkek, a presentation of the Penza Region's potential at the International Economic Forum "Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum" in Kazan, and a trade fair as part of the XIII Forum of Regions of Russia and Belarus in Minsk.
