Society 07.05.2020

On Tuesday, May 5, 2020 Ivan Belozertsev planted apple trees by a new school in Zaprudny microdistrict.

The Memory Garden international action taking place in Russia and CIS countries this spring is devoted to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. It is planned to plant 27 million trees until the May 9 in honour of each person who died during the Great Patriotic War.

"We have planted apple trees on the territory of the new school, which was built with the support of the RF President and Government. It is important that all the trees to be planted, especially this year, take root.  It is a memory of our nation's and our fellow countrymen's great feat during the Great Patriotic War. It is important for the youth and for all of us never to forget about it. This Victory was achieved at a really great cost," - Ivan Belozertsev said.

The school opens on September 1, 2020.  It is to be named after Vasiliy Glazunov, the commander of the Airborne forces in 1941-1943, Hero of the Soviet Union.

The Memory Garden action is organised by the Victory Volunteers, the Victory Commanders Memorial Fund, with the active assistance of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology and the Federal Forestry Agency, as well as the Penza Oblast Government and Penza Administration.

In today's conditions the action is made non-public and is conducted in accordance with the requirements of sanitary and epidemiological safety.

Each Penza Oblast municipal and city district will have their own Memory Garden.  40 thousand trees have been planted in the region so far and 35 thousand more are to be planted by May 9.

The new movement and the new hashtag of the action is #СадПамятиДома (#MemoryGardenAtHome). Anyone can plant trees on their yards in honour of their ancestors, heroes of the war.
