The opening ceremony took place on Thursday, September 9, 2021.
The reconstruction of the BakuninskyBridge and the approaches to it from Uritsky and Zlobin Streets began in 2019 as part of the national project "Safe and High-quality Roads". More than 932 million rubles were allocated for these purposes.
There are three traffic lanes, a pedestrian zone and a bicycle path. Works were carried out on the installation of storm sewers, architectural illumination of the bridge and embankment, the bridge and approaches roadway lighting, reconstruction of external gas and electricity supply networks, as well as communication networks.
Oleg Melnichenko called the bridge reconstruction a very important event for Penza.
"This is an important transport corridor of our city, connecting the GPZ district, Akhuny, and Mayak surroundings with the centre. This bridge links two parts of Penza. I would like to remind you that the reconstruction was carried out as part of the national project and at cost of the funds allocated at the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin," the acting governor said.
"Speaking about our region, over the past few years, about 12 billion rubles have been raised to improve the roads here. This is a huge help and support for the Penza Oblast," he added.
"In the nearest future, we will have to implement a number of other projects, including the reconstruction of the road on Prospekt Stroiteley, that on RyabovStreet and the road interchange on the M-5 highway. I am sure that all the tasks that our region faces will be fulfilled," Oleg Melnichenko summed up.
"The Penza Oblast is doing a lot of work on combining and accumulating all available resources, including federal support for the implementation of various national projects. These are different places – a bridge, an embankment, a bike path, the development of a tourist complex. The implementation of the President's decree on creating a comfortable and accessible environment is underway, which is so necessary for all of us," stated Igor Kostyuchenko, deputy head of the Federal Road Agency.
The acting governor and the deputy head of the Federal Road Agency also discussed further prospects for the development of this territory.
