The N. Burdenko Penza Regional Clinical Hospital X-ray department of surgical methods of diagnosis and treatment doctors, under leadership of Aleksey Sokolov, for the first time in the Penza Oblast performed a high-tech surgery to a patient with an acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease (ischemic stroke).
"The ischemic stroke (brain infarction) is a cerebrovascular disorder with damage to brain tissue and its malfunctions due to difficulty or cessation of blood flow to a particular brain region," Aleksey Sokolov explains. "Most often, an ischemic stroke is caused by insufficient blood supply to a certain area of the brain due to a decrease in cerebral blood flow, thrombosis or embolism associated with vascular, heart or blood diseases."
According to experts, this pathology is one of the main causes of mortality among the population.
"During the surgery, a modern combined method was used," the doctor clarifies. "Against the background of thrombolytic therapy, we performed active thromboaspiration with thromboextraction from the cerebral artery using an endovascular stent retriever. A blood clot was extracted from the cerebral artery and blood flow through it was completely restored."
This type of treatment is a breakthrough for our region.
The use of thromboaspiration with thromboextraction in ischemic stroke has been proven to significantly reduce the risk of the patient's death or serious disability.
It is important to remember that this method is effective only if you seek medical help in a timely manner.
