March 24 is the World Tuberculosis Day. The slogan of 2022 is "Mobilising resources to fight tuberculosis. Let's save lives!".
On Thursday, March 24, 2022, a traditional educational event aimed at drawing public attention to the problem of tuberculosis was held for Penza residents and guests.
According to Yevgenia Karpeyeva, a phthisiologist at the Penza Regional Tuberculosis Hospital, despite the fact that this disease has become easier to cure, it is still one of the top ten causes of death in the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has hindered the fight against this disease: in 2020, for the first time in more than ten years, the world saw an increase in the number of deaths from tuberculosis.
Doctors are concerned that there has been an increase in the proportion of patients with common forms of tuberculosis, as well as a decrease in detectability during preventive examinations by almost 10%.
Penza residents participated in the quiz about the history of this disease, ways to detect it and the main measures to combat it. All participants interested in this issue were given booklets on tuberculosis prevention and the need for examination, and children got white daisies as a symbol of healthy breathing.
Medical staff emphasised the importance of regular fluorographic examination, which must be carried out at least once every 2 years. People who have had a coronavirus infection complicated by pneumonia should pay special attention to the health of their lungs.
