On April 11, the third season of the "Garden of Memory" international action was opened in Penza. Its goal is to plant 27 million trees in honour of those who died during the Great Patriotic War and to promote patriotic and environmental education.
The date was also chosen for a reason: it is on April 11 that a memorable date - the International Day of Liberation of Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps - is celebrated.
As part of the event, lime trees were planted  in the Oktyabrsky public garden by representatives of the region's youth and veteran organisations. Those who had arrived from the DPR and are temporarily residing in the Penza Oblast also joined the campaign.
When greeting the participants of the action, Oleg Yagov, First Deputy Chairman of the Penza Oblast Government, noted: "It is symbolic that the "Garden of Memory" campaign takes place with the participation of the DPR residents who were hostages of the aggression of the current Ukrainian regime. They came out with us to honour the memory of the heroes who fought shoulder to shoulder for their homeland and died from the brutal Nazi regime during the Great Patriotic War."
"We came to Penza to protect our children from the dangers of neo-Nazism raging in Ukraine. We take part in the action and plant trees in memory of every soldier from Russia and the People's militia of Donbass who defended our homeland," a resident of the DPR said.
Trees in memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War will be planted in all Russian regions, in several foreign countries, as well as in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.
