"Garden of Memory" Planted in Penza Oblast in Honour of Great Patriotic War Heroes

On Friday, April 29, 2022, the Penza Oblast Ministry of Forestry, Hunting and Nature Management organised and held an international action on planting forests called "Garden of Memory" on the territory of the Yermolovsky-Stepnoy district forestry of the Akhunsko-Leninsky forestry near the village of Kondol, Penzensky district.
"The "Garden of Memory" international campaign is a great opportunity not only to say thank you to our ancestors, but also to preserve the memory of their feat for many years. Planting a tree is the least we can do in gratitude to our heroes," commented Rishat Altynbayev, the Penza Oblast Minister of Forestry, Hunting and Nature Management.
As part of the campaign, about 3 thousand seedlings of scots pine were planted, as well as 50 kg of pedunculate oak acorns were sown.  
The action to commemorate those who died during the Great Patriotic War, is of particular importance for preserving the historical memory of the great feat of the Soviet people. In memory of each of the 27 million people who died in the war, the international campaign will plant 27 million trees.
To organise the "Garden of Memory" campaign in the Penza Oblast, forestry departments have identified 18 sites for planting homogeneous stands and adding up to the previously planted ones with a total area of 19.2 hectares, where it is planned to plant more than 30 thousand trees.
About 200 people took part in the action. In recent years, this campaign has become the most popular one in the Penza Oblast in terms of the number of participants including employees of the Ministry of Forestry, executive authorities, deputy of the Legislative Assembly, chairman of the commission from the Public Chamber, employees of the Akhunsko-Leninsky Forestry, Roslesinforg, Forest Protection Centre, Damate, Vanyushkiny Sladosti, Siberian Wellness, students of Penza State Agrarian University, State Technological University, University of Architecture and Construction, representatives of "Victory Volunteers", public organisations and other volunteers.
Note: The action was organised by the "Garden of Memory" Autonomous Non-Commercial Organisation, the "Volunteers of Victory" All-Russian public movement and the Victory Commanders Memorial Fund with the support of the RF Ministry of Education, Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology, as well as Federal Forestry Agency as part of the "Ecology" national project.
