Every day, doctors of the regional vascular centre of the N. Burdenko Penza Regional Clinical Hospital carry out the most complex surgeries on brain.
In terms of its equipment, the centre is on a par with the country's leading clinics, thanks to the "Fight against cardiovascular diseases" programme of the "Healthcare" priority national project.
The doctors' experience and professionalism allow them to carry out unique neurosurgeries successfully.
"Today, the N. Burdenko Regional Vascular Centre is the face of modern medicine in the field of neurosurgery. Wonderful conditions have been created for the surgical treatment of patients and we, in cooperation with our specialists from the Department of Neurosurgery of the Penza Institute of Advanced Medical Training, are confidently implementing the most ambitious plans for the benefit of our patients," Mikhail Krasnov, head of the regional vascular centre of the N. Burdenko Penza Regional Clinical Hospital, explains.
Another bright and memorable story has appeared in the record of the provision of high-tech medical care at the Burdenko Regional Hospital.
"I am proud of our team's success and now I am happy to tell you about the unique surgery that we performed on a forty-two-year-old patient with a complex pathology of the brain," Mikhail Krasnov clarified. "We were very worried about the surgery outcome, but, fortunately, everything went well."
Mr. N, a citizen of a neighboring state, came to our region as a tourist and started to endure morning headaches accompanied by vomiting and hiccups. His face lost its symmetry, and one of his ears stopped hearing.
A comprehensive examination revealed a voluminous, large-sized formation of the posterior cranial fossa on the left. The tumor, located next to vital structures, squeezed the brainstem and significantly shifted the brain in the opposite direction, causing gross cerebrospinal fluid disorders, threatening the patient's life.
The man needed an extremely complex surgery. At any moment, his breathing could stop, there was a risk of sudden death, as the tumour was rapidly growing.
On April 21, the patient underwent a complex neurosurgery with microsurgical techniques at the regional vascular center of the N. Burdenko Penza Regional Clinical Hospital.
Gia Shaginyan, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery of the Penza Institute of Advanced Medical Training – a branch of the federal state budgetary educational institution of additional Professional education "Russian Medical Academy of Continuing Professional Education" of the RF Ministry of Health, neurosurgeon of the highest qualification category, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, laureate of the RF Government, headed the surgical team.
Mikhail Krasnov, head of the administrative unit of the Department of Neurosurgery of the Penza Institute of Advanced Medical Training, a neurosurgeon of the highest qualification category, head of the regional vascular centre of the N. Burdenko Penza Regional Clinical Hospital, Honoured Doctor of the Russian Federation, assisted the professor.
The tumour was removed totally within 3.5 hours. After the surgery, the patient was transferred to the department of anesthesiology and intensive care, where he was extubated a few hours later. During the postoperative period, positive neurological dynamics was noted, control CT of the brain showed excellent post-surgical results and no complications. The patient feels good and has already been discharged.
"The joint work of specialists of the Department of Neurosurgery of the Penza Institute of Advanced Medical Training and the N. Burdenko Penza Regional Clinical Hospital allowed us to raise the standards for providing high-tech care in the region one more level higher," Mikhail Krasnov noted.
