Society 17.05.2022
The Governor took part in the solemn events dedicated to the Victory Day on Monday, May 9, 2022.
Together with representatives of the Brest Oblast delegation, who had arrived in our region on an official visit, the governor visited the chapel of Michael the Archangel, where the "For the Glory of Russian Weapons" thanksgiving prayer service was held.
A Victory parade was held near the Monument of Military and Labour Glory of Penza residents. Addressing the participants of the festive event, the governor congratulated everyone on the Day of Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War.
"For the multimillion people of our great Motherland, May 9 is a day of pride and glory, the day of the triumph of justice and grateful memory of the unprecedented feat of our ancestors. Today, more than ever, we feel the continuity of blood and spiritual ties with our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers. Looking at their faces in old photographs, we feel the greatness of the fate of the generation of winners. They did the impossible – defended the onslaught of Europe united by fascism and saved us from total destruction. Sacrificing themselves, they fought for their native land. They stood shoulder to shoulder to death in battles. Regardless of anything, they worked for days at the machines," Oleg Melnichenko said recalling the heroes and exploits of 1941-1945.
"Today, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are successfully performing combat missions in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics and in Ukraine. They have to clear the earth of Nazism again. Russian troops are saving the people of Donbass, our Slavic brothers, from violence and physical destruction. Penza servicemen are also participating in the special military operation. They honourably fulfill their military duty," the head of the Penza Oblast stressed.
As a sign of friendship with the Donetsk People's Republic, in memory of the feat of the defenders of Donbass, Oleg Melnichenko proposed naming one of Penza streets in the Zarya microdistrict after Aleksandr Zakharchenko, the first head of the DPR, who died at the hands of terrorists. The head of the region has already voiced this initiative at the Penza City Duma.
Yuri Narkevich, Chairman of the Brest Regional Council of Deputies, congratulated all Penza residents on Victory Day.
"We celebrate a sacred holiday for every citizen of Belarus and Russia. Almost two thousand kilometers separate our cities – Brest and Penza. But nothing and no one will be able to ruin our friendship, our fraternal relations, our common memory of that holy war," the head of the Brest parliamentarians stated.
Cadets of the branch of the Khrulyov Military Academy of Logistics, officers teams of the Main Directorate of the RF Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Penza Oblast, representatives of the Unarmia movement and cadets of Cossack classes took part in a solemn march along the avenue.
The participants of the ceremony laid flowers and wreaths to the Eternal Flame in memory of the fallen soldiers and veterans who passed away in the post-war years. About all the heroes and victims of the Great Patriotic War.
Thousands of the Penza Oblast residents took part in the march of the Immortal Regiment. With pride, they carried portraits of their heroic ancestors, shared memories of grandfathers and great-grandfathers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers who forged Victory at the front and in the rear, who defended our right to life and freedom.
