The team of the "Quantorium NEL" children's technopark is among the winners of the "Krona Junior" online scientific and practical conference of design works.
The research paper "Analysis of ways to increase the power of a bottom microbial fuel cell" by Aleksandr Ampleyev, Yuliana Zhulitova, Stanislav Sergeyenkov and Oksana Surinovich became one of the best works presented at the conference.
In total, more than a thousand schoolchildren took part in the event. They sent over 500 works, and 55 of them reached the final. The authors of 16 of them were announced as winners.
"A bottom microbial fuel cell is a device that generates electricity from the activity of microorganisms. It is installed in a reservoir. At the moment, technology does not allow it to be used in industry, because it is extremely inefficient. In our work, we investigated ways to increase its effectiveness," Stanislav Sergeenkov, one of the authors of the study, explained.
As a reward for winning the conference, the schoolchildren will take part in a vacation project shift held by the "School League" non-profit organisation in St. Petersburg.
