In February 2023, at Moscow Prosthetic and Orthopedic Enterprise (Penza), the left forearm prosthesis with an external energy source with bioelectric software made for a resident of Penza was tested and configured.
The device cost about 4 million rubles, it was funded by the Social Fund of Russia.
Social Fund experts and doctors of the Enterprise installed the prosthesis.
The prosthesis is equipped with a fully movable myoelectric hand, which has five movable fingers. The hand ensures the performance of everyday tasks using typical grip models.
A specific hand is initially programmed to implement eight functional positions (grip models), which gives the user the opportunity to perform everyday actions: eat, drink, use a computer, ATMs, and turn the key in the lock. Optionally, the hand can be programmed for additional grip models.
During the test use, the user could lift and hold a glass. The user noted the high functionality of the prosthesis and its aesthetic appearance.
The Department of the Social Fund of Russia in the Penza Oblast provides disabled people with many types of modern technical means of rehabilitation, such as electric wheelchairs (including for disabled children and patients with cerebral palsy), high-tech prostheses (hands, forearms, hips and lower legs). In 2022, more than 330 prosthetics, including 8 high-tech ones, were purchased in the Penza Oblast, which made it possible to change the lives of people with disabilities.
