The main purpose of the organization is the support of participants and veterans of the special military operation (SMO), and their families, as stated by Governor Oleg Melnichenko at the event that launched the Foundation's work.
He recalled that the Decree on the creation of the state foundation "Defenders of the Fatherland" was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 3, 2023. More than 3 thousand social coordinators have been trained throughout Russia. They will help servicemen and their loved ones in solving emerging issues.
The organization of the Penza branch took less than two months.
"Today we have taken the first step towards fulfilling the instructions of the President of our country Vladimir V. Putin that such branches should be established on the territory of all regions of the Russian Federation as soon as possible," the governor explained.
"This is a unique foundation – nothing like this has ever been created in Russia - neither after the Great Patriotic War, nor after the war in Afghanistan, nor after the Chechen campaign. This is the first attempt of systematic support for SMO participants and their family members," he added.
The head of the region also clarified that the main task of the foundation is to ensure that no family member of a participant in a special military operation and no veteran would be left without the support of the state.
A team of 25 people has been formed to work so far. According to Oleg Melnichenko, the new regional organization should unite not only social curators, but also volunteer movements.
"The regional foundation is headed by Olga B. Kleimyonova. This is a person who knows what a loss is - her son died. I think that such a person will not be indifferent to working with veterans and their family members," the governor summed up.
In Penza, the foundation was created in cooperation with the Committee of Families of. The building for work has been allocated on 36 Ulitsa Popova.
23 social coordinators were sent for training, now they will be assigned to the specific families of the veterans. It is planned that 90 coordinators will work in the Penza branch by the end of the year.

Oleg Melnichenko also held a meeting with participants of a special military operation, family members of servicemen and representatives of public organizations. The issue of rehabilitation of servicemen and veterans was discussed. The Governor drew attention to the need for separate wards for the disabled. Currently, the possibility of creating a rehabilitation center in the Volodarsky health center in Akhuny is being considered.
