The Presidential Envoy to the Volga Federal District Igor Komarov and the Governor of the Penza Oblast Oleg Melnichenko addressed the young participants from 14 regions of the Volga Federal District, the Zaporozhye Oblast and the Donetsk People's Republic.
The head of the Republic of Mordovia Artyom Zdunov, and Heroes of the Russian Federation Oleg Lobunets and Aleksandr Yanklovich were invited to the opening ceremony.
According to the presidential envoy, military-patriotic education is one of the most important tasks of the state.
"The district public project "Guardsman" has gained real popularity among children and high school students," Igor Komarov stressed.  The Yunarmy military-patriotic training camps "Guardsman" unify the entire system of pre-conscription training in our district. The training program allows us to successfully solve the tasks of initial military training."
"Here you will gain knowledge and practical skills in the use of modern technical means of armament and military equipment," the Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative said. – Meetings with Heroes of Russia, veterans and participants of counter-terrorism and special military operations are planned for you. Their knowledge and experience are invaluable. Take advantage of this opportunity."
Governor Oleg Melnichenko, who is one of the creators of the "Guardsman" concept, recalled that the event in the Penza Oblast has been opened for the ninth time. This year, 320 young students of grades 9-10 became participants.
"The project helps young people to get basic knowledge in the field of state defense, and preparation for military service," the head of the region said.
"In our Russian tradition, the word "guardsman" sounds proud. You know that the President and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Federation confers the title of "Guards" to the best military units and formations that distinguished themselves in battles.  And our camp is being strictly selected at the regional level. You have passed it, and this is already a personal victory for each of you," Oleg Melnichenko emphasized.
He added that in the Penza Oblast, at the Artillery Engineering Institute, all conditions have been created for the best pre-conscription training and recreation of children. Instructors of the Institute and Volunteer Military Support Organization will work with them.
"Dear friends, our camp played a decisive role in the fate of many children. Many participants entered our Artillery Engineering Institute and other military educational institutions," Oleg Melnichenko explained. - According to my data, in 2022, twenty-six "guards" were cadets of our military university. Some of the participants of previous years have already completed their training and joined the officer ranks. I know guys who went to serve in law enforcement agencies."
The head of the Republic of Mordovia, Artyom Zdunov stated that the "Guardsman" has become a staple event in the Volga Federal District.

"Thank you so much for holding such events here. Guys really try hard to get here. Three thousand kids from Mordovia competed, and that's how many ended up here. There is no such competition in any university. I asked my fellow citizens to represent Mordovia with dignity."
Participants of the training camps will take a course of a young fighter, and learn to shoot from a machine gun. The curriculum includes parachute training classes. All this will be useful for young people in their future service in the Armed Forces.
