Oleg Melnichenko congratulated the residents of Sputnik on the Day of Knowledge. The new school will be named after Lev Borisovich Yermin.  
The educational institution was commissioned a year earlier than planned, as Oleg Melnichenko had promised. The building is designed for 2,425 seats (97 groups), and it will work as a full-time single shift institution.
"This school was created, first of all, thanks to the support of our President. In 2021, when the residents of Sputnik told me that an educational institution was needed here, I talked to the President, and he gave a clear order to build a school," the governor said.  
With the assistance of Vladimir Putin and Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, it was possible to significantly accelerate the construction of the facility. The school was commissioned in 2023 due to the efforts of construction staff.  
The head of the Penza Oblast noted that the school in Sputnik is the largest in the Volga Federal District and the second in terms of the number of students in Russia.  
"1830 children entered the educational institution today, 290 of them go to the 1st grade. In general, there are more than 500 first-graders in the two schools that work in the neighborhood. I think this is very good, but we need more," Oleg Melnichenko said.
"There are also eleventh graders, two classes. This is the last academic year for you. I would like to wish you all luck and success," he said.
The children at the new school will receive specialized education, including engineering and technical professions. There are also additional courses in technical and natural science, physical culture and sports, art, tourism and local lore, social and humanitarian subjects.    
A robotics center, laboratories for educational, research and project activities, modeling and technical creativity have been created. A journalism center, a school printing house and a television center, video and photo studios have been opened.
The governor proposed to name the new school after Lev Borisovich Yermin who contributed to the economic and cultural life of Penza and the region.  
"This man went through the Great Patriotic War as a soldier, rose to the rank of foreman. He was awarded the Order of "Soldier's Glory". After the war, he worked for the benefit of our region for many years.  If there are no objections, I would ask for your consent so that we can name this wonderful school after him," Oleg Melnichenko explained.
