Scientists of Penza State University together with colleagues from the Donetsk People's Republic have improved the device for drainage, removal of fluid and sequestration from various cavities. With the new trocar, minimally invasive and emergency operations will be carried out faster, and most importantly, the device helps to simultaneously clean purulent cavities with several drains. This will reduce postoperative complications and increase the effectiveness of treatment.
Trocar is a surgical instrument in the form of a triangular needle with a tube for releasing pus or other fluid from the body cavities. It is convenient because it provides access to other instruments in the operating cavity. Various surgical instruments are inserted into the cavity through the inner tube of the trocar, depending on the type of procedure performed.
The existing trocars are multi-part and have a complex design. In addition, they do not allow several manipulations to drain cavities at the same time, and some are not designed at all to remove sequesters (a fragment of destroyed tissue freely located among living tissues).
A team of scientists from the DPR and Penza consists of Vladimir Khatsko, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Surgery of Donetsk State Medical University (Donetsk, DPR); Aleksandr Kuzmenko, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Surgery; Oleg Zenin, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Anatomy Professor at PSU; Aleksandr Mitroshin, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Surgery, Director of the Medical Institute of PSU; Vladimir Potapov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, assistant of the Department of Anesthesiology of Donetsk State Medical University; and Yuri Kostyamin, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery. The researchers improved the trocar and made it combined. Now surgeons using this device can simultaneously introduce from 1 to 7 drains through the trocar sleeve to drain purulent cavities.
The new trocar is already used by leading surgeons of the Donetsk Clinical Territorial Medical Association.
The combined trocar consists of a hollow elongated tube and a pointed stiletto for piercing fabrics, a cap nut of the tube, and a tube with a coupling and a sleeve (conductor) for drainage pipes.
This design allows to make a puncture, insert the necessary tools into the wound and adjust the depth of the puncture.
According to doctors, the combined trocar is not only useful for minimally invasive surgery, but also for emergency operations. For example, during operations on the chest (empyema of the pleura and hemothorax), abscesses of the retroperitoneal space and omentum, operations on the pelvic organs and many others, it will be possible to carry out procedures faster and more efficiently.
The combined trocar will be in demand in surgical, thoracic, proctological and gynecological departments.
Replacement of drainage does not bring discomfort to the patient and does not injure the puncture site. The time of hospitalization was significantly reduced.
The doctors also noted that additional training of surgeons for the use of the trocar will not be needed. In addition, the surgical instrument will not be expensive. Its approximate cost will be about 5-10 thousand rubles.
Scientists have received a Eurasian patent for the invention. The combined trocar is available for practical use in surgical departments.
