The grand opening took place in Nanchang, China.
The participants of the Forum, heads of educational institutions of the Volga Federal District and provinces of the People's Republic of China, were welcomed by the Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in the Volga Federal District Igor Komarov. He recalled the history of the Association, saying that the decision to create this association was made at the II meeting of the Council for Interregional Cooperation in the Volga–Yangtze format in 2017. Since then, the Association of Volga–Yangtze Universities has included 50 Russian and 35 Chinese educational institutions.
"The heads of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China noted the interest of our countries in the activities of Russian specialized associations of universities, in promoting joint educational programs, in developing cooperation in the field of language teaching, bilateral exchange between students, and interaction in the field of digital education," Igor Komarov stressed.
The Rector of PSU Aleksandr Gulyakov and Rector of Penza State Technological University Dmitry Pashchenko also took part in the Forum. The Governor noted that cooperation helps educational institutions to fully unleash their educational and scientific potential. He recalled that Penza State University has signed cooperation agreements with 11 institutes and universities in China.
"Several dozen Chinese citizens study at Penza universities, and Chinese language has been taught in one of the most modern schools in our region since its opening in 2020. This academic year, 400 students of grades 6, 7 and 8 are studying Chinese. Modern reality requires us to respond to new challenges," commented Oleg Melnichenko.
