From May 14 to 19, the Penza Oblast hosted the 10th Anniversary International Scientific Conference dedicated to the memory of German Fedorov-Davydov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Moscow State University, an outstanding Soviet and Russian historian, archaeologist, numismatist-orientalist and art critic.
The forum was attended by 148 scientists from different cities of Russia, Turkey, Hungary, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan. The Lermontov Regional Library hosted the grand opening of the conference and a plenary session.
"Today we are attending an important historical event initiated by the Governor of the Penza Oblast Oleg Melnichenko. For the first time in the ten-year history of this conference, our region has become the venue for it. This is the largest event, both in terms of the number of participants and the program itself, " said Oleg Yagov, First Deputy Chairman of the Government, opening the plenary session.
The conference program is large-scale and diverse; the work of the sections will be held in the Penza Regional Museum of Local Lore on May 16 and 17. On May 18, forum participants will visit Narovchat, where they will be able to get acquainted with the materials of the Golden Horde Narovchat settlement in the local regional museum of local lore, and see the ruins of a medieval brick building.
"The archeology work in the Penza Oblast has been carried out for a long time. Our historians take part in it under the guidance of the Institute of Regional Development rector, archaeologist, Professor Gennady Belorybkin and with the active support of the Governor Oleg Melnichenko, who has participated in archaeological excavations and research works," said Aleksandr Lomovtsev, Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Penza Oblast.
The conference is organized by the Institute of Regional Development of the Penza Oblast, the A. H. Khalikov Institute of Archeology of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University and Mari State University.
"All of us have come together with one goal – to present our scientific and research findings to the general public and, above all, to the younger generation, so that young people can learn about the history of our country, small and large homeland, and understand how deep and rich our history is," said Gennady Belorybkin.
Studies of the archaeological heritage of the Eurasia peoples were presented at the conference.
After the conference, a resolution will be adopted to reflect further development of archaeological research in Eurasia, address the problems of transporting monuments to museums, and determine the venue for the next conference.
