The Penza Oblast will host a large-scale complex tournament – the XII Summer Sports Contest of Russian students. This was stated by the head of the Regional Ministry of Sports Yevgenia Bochkaryova during a briefing.
The Minister stressed that the upcoming Sports Contest is the largest sports event of the year for schoolchildren in the country. The event is held in order to achieve the indicators of the federal project, initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The project is aimed at attracting the population to athletic activities.
"The Penza Oblast is a sports region with excellent conditions for holding high-level competitions. For many years, since 2007, our region has been hosting the Sports Contest of Russian Students," said Yevgenia Bochkaryova.
This year, the Penza Oblast has the honor of holding the grand opening of the Sports Contest. The ceremony will take place on June 13, and the program includes competitions in 51 sports.
"The competition will be opened by the rhythmic gymnastics final on June 11. All participants have already passed a serious selection process at the regional and district levels. The best ones will be determined in conditions of high competition," the Minister emphasized.
From June to August, the region will host final stage competitions in rhythmic gymnastics, water polo, rock climbing, synchronized swimming, diving, karate, archery, table tennis, triathlon, and swimming. In total, more than 2,100 athletes will take part in them, and about 100 athletes are representing the Penza Oblast.
It will be possible to follow the events online - live broadcasts will be available on the website of the regional Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports.
Yevgenia Bochkaryova added that most of the events will be held at regional sports facilities in Penza (the Voeykov Martial Arts Palace, the Burtasy and Sura sports palaces, and the Dolphin Sports Complex. Two programs will be held in Mokshansky and Kamensky districts (triathlon and archery).
