The meeting was dedicated to the implementation of measures to support scientific and technological development in the regions of the Volga Federal District.

The meeting of the Council, which was held by Igor Komarov, Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the VFD, was attended by Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy RF Prime, Valery Falkov, RF Minister of Science and Higher Education, representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Rostech State Corporation, and heads of regions of the Volga Federal District.

Igor Komarov stressed that the country's security and development are ensured by a reliable scientific basis and breakthrough technologies. The Presidential decree defines technological leadership as one of the national development goals up to 2030 and for the future up to 2036.

"Now it is important to properly integrate the regions into a single scientific and technological space in order to successfully solve the problems of technological sovereignty and meet the needs of the economy and society," the Plenipotentiary representative emphasized.

Dmitry Chernyshenko noted that the joint efforts of regional teams in coordination with business, universities and scientific organizations are extremely important.

Among the regions of the Volga Federal District, the Penza Oblast ranks 7th in terms of innovation activity. Research and development are carried out by about 30 organizations. This includes both the public sector, higher education institutions, and scientific and production enterprises.

"At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, an agreement was reached on cooperation with the Engineering and Innovation Support Center, which will help to promote Penza companies. We cooperate with the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property. The first branch of the Academy in Russia has been opened in our region, and this year it had the first set of applicants," Governor Oleg Melnichenko commented on the situation in the Penza Oblast.
