Oleg Melnichenko held a working meeting with the management of the Kuibyshev Railway. The head of the Kuibyshev Railway, Vyacheslav Dmitriyev, introduced the governor to his new deputy, Andrey Konakov, who will oversee the Penza territorial administration. The discussion focused on the results of their cooperation in 2024 and prospects for partnership.
According to Vyacheslav Dmitriyev, the railway transported approximately 1.5 million passengers last year, an increase of nearly 8% compared to the previous period. The most significant growth was observed in suburban travel, which rose by 13.2%, with 680,000 passengers transported throughout the year.
"Rail transport within the region is becoming increasingly popular. Several of our joint projects have proven to be highly effective," commented Oleg Melnichenko.
The total volume of freight transportation amounted to 1.1 million tons.
"Thanks to our collaboration with local authorities, we attracted 76 new clients and shipped an additional 426,000 tons of cargo. One of our key focus areas is grain exports, as the Penza Oblast is rich in grain harvests," emphasized Vyacheslav Dmitriyev.
In 2024, a record 80 "grain express" shipments were sent to foreign markets, which is the highest number since the service was introduced. Melnichenko also highlighted the region's high sugar beet harvest and increased sugar production, stressing the need for logistical support in transporting these goods.
The governor also discussed infrastructure projects, including the reconstruction of the road near Yerik Street, Transportnaya Street, and Gorbatov Lane, which involves rebuilding the railway overpass. He acknowledged the significant work already completed by railway specialists. Additionally, he pointed out the future need for repairs to the pedestrian bridge over the railway tracks in the town of Lunino, a topic that will be revisited soon.
As part of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, the Kuibyshev Railway has planned a series of themed projects and events. Following tradition, the "Victory Locomotive" will visit Penza-1 station on May 4, 2025.
