The XVI International Ivan Mozzhukhin Film Festival "Male Role" will take place from November 26 to 30 with the support of Governor Oleg Melnichenko. Traditionally, the opening ceremony will be held on November 26 in Kondol, the birthplace of the great film actor, at the Mozzhukhin Brothers Museum.
The film forum traditionally offers viewers four programs: a competition screening of new feature films, showcases of documentary and animated cinema, and a retrospective screening titled "One Country - One War."
Overall, during the cultural event, residents and guests of Penza Oblast will have the opportunity to view 65 feature, documentary, and animated films. Festival screenings will be held across 15 venues.
The competition program includes eight feature films presenting the best male cinematic works of recent years. Many of these films have received awards at Russian and international film festivals for best male performance.
The best films will be recognized with awards from the festival's international jury, including prizes for "Best Actor," "Hope" for best young actor, and "Gentleman of Cinema" for the actor who most accurately portrays the image of a modern-day hero on screen.
According to the organizers, the non-fiction program "Heroes of the Documentary Screen" offers a special opportunity to discuss courage, patriotism, and humanism. The main theme for 2025, declared the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland and the 80th anniversary of Victory, will be the special military operation. The cycle "Time of Heroes," dedicated to heroes of the SMO, will feature the best Russian films on this topic.
Younger audiences will be able to see the best short animated films presented at the 2025 Suzdal Film Festival. Children's screenings will take place at the "House of Officers" Cultural Center, the new building's main hall of the Lermontov Regional Library, as well as in cinemas and cultural centers in Kuznetsk, Serdobsk, Vadinsk, Gorodishche, Bekovo, Nikolsk, Tamala, Nizhny and Verkhny Lomov.
Competition screenings will be held at the "Penza" cinema-concert hall and the new building of the Penza State Museum of Local Lore. Documentary films and retrospective screenings will also take place in the same hall of the local history museum.
Admission to all film screenings is free with invitation tickets, which can be obtained at the box offices of the screening venues.
The festival is held with the support of the Penza Oblast Government and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Penza Oblast. Organizers include "Penza Concert" and the Ivan Mozzhukhin Charitable Non-Profit Cultural Development Foundation.
