A festive rally was held on Marshal Zhukov Square on Tuesday, 12 June 2018.
Congratulating the citizens, Ivan Belozertsev noted the particular role of the region in the development of Russian economic potential.
“Today is the day when we recall with pride the history of the Russian state and the day when we focus on the future of our great Motherland. It is safe to say that our country has restored its positions in the international arena that were lost in the 1990s. Russia has become a major political and economic player in the world,” the head of the region stated.
“This was made possible by the fact that the President of the Russian Federation is leading the country along the right track. The policy is supported by people in the Penza region and Russian constituent entities in general,” he added.
Looking to the future of the regional centre, Ivan Belozertsev highlighted the key areas of work.
“It is important for the city to create favourable living conditions and to provide high-paid jobs, so that our young people stay here, start families and have beautiful children, who would love our city and accumulate the traditions of their predecessors,” the governor emphasised.
The head of the region paid special tribute to veterans, honorary citizens and senior administrative officials of the city in different periods.
“We sincerely thank and bow our heads to those who passed away. We should remember how much they have done to make us live and work today,” he said.
Also, the governor outlined the support measures that will be provided to the regional centre this year.
“We decided to allocate 1 billion 250 thousand roubles for constructing roads and sidewalks. Additionally, we provided 60 million roubles for redesigning Lenin Square. We also secured funding for creating pleasant environment in Zapadnaya polyana neighbourhood. We will do our best to make Penza the most people-oriented city in the Russian Federation,” he concluded.
Mikhail Glushkov, Head of the Administration in a sub-district of the twin city of Mogilev, welcomed all those present and commended the achievements of Penza residents in the economy and social sector.
He wanted the festival to be a remarkable event and an impetus for further development.
The title “Honorary Citizen of the City of Penza” for the contribution to the regional centre advancement was conferred on Viktor Vasilyev, former Head of the Office of the Federal Tax Police Service of the Russian Federation for the Penza region, current Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Veteran Fund.
The Badge of Honour “For Merits in the Development of the City of Penza” was awarded to Aleksandr Kalashnikov, who ruled the city administration from 1992 to 2000.
After the ceremonial part, creative teams put in their performances and then the festive parade took place.
The parade started with motorcyclists on vintage vehicles. Following that, military students and personnel of Penza Artillery Engineering Institute, international students of Penza State University, representatives of ethnic autonomous groups and public organisations marched through the square.
