Starting from September 2019 the ‘Regional Centre for Identifying and Supporting Gifted and Talented Children in Science, Arts, and Sport’ will commence with their activities. The first to start work is the ‘Science’ unit, following that, by 2022, all other units of the centre will be open. The centre will be housed in the Governor’s Lyceum school for gifted children in Penza.
The work in the centre will be organized in two main forms: learning and project-making activities and enrichment programmes.
The centre will also compile a database of talented and gifted children of the Penza region. At present, the centre professionals have started developing the appropriate education programmes, criteria and technologies for talents identification, there is also work under way on the construction plan for the new building of the Governor’s Lyceum that is to house the centre.
The regional centre of gifted children support has been organized as a result of an agreement between the Penza regional government and the ‘Talent and Success’ Foundation, established by Sergei Roldugin.
The latter is an organizer of the educational centre ‘Sirius’ in Sochi, that annually admits 600 gifted children from various regions in Russia. The development of the centre in Penza also suggests special training programmes for teachers.
‘It is highly important to identify and nurture a talented child. I’m convinced that developing such programmes for meeting the needs of gifted and talented children will have a profound influence not only on the development of the region, but of the country in general,’ said Ivan Belozertsev.
