The XXVI International Gymnastics Competition “Voronin Cup” will take place in “Burtasy” sports hall in Penza on the 29th and 30th of November. The competition will gather over 100 athletes from 15 countries – Armenia, Belarus, Great Britain, Georgia, Egypt, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Cyprus, Korea, Latvia, Uzbekistan, Finland, Japan, and Russia.
It is organized by the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, the Government of Penza region, the Gymnastics Federation of Russia, and the Gymnastics Federation of Penza region.
The tournament has been held since 1993 and is included in the calendar of competitions of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation and the International Gymnastics Federation.
For all these years over 5000 athletes from 30 countries have competed in the tournament, including the distinguished gymnasts - champions and prize-winners of Olympic games, world and European cups: Aleksey Nemov, Elena Zamolodchikova, Aleksey Bondarenko, Emin Garibov, Denis Ablyazin, Anna Pavlova, Alia Mustafina, Kseniya Semenova (all from Russia), Dmitry Karbonenko (France), Sergey Kharkov (Germany), Alexander Vorobyev (Ukraine), Yukio Tanaka, Kenza Shirai (both from Japan).
At the Cup, Penza will be represented by 13 athletes: Ulyana Perebinosova, Elizaveta Volodina, Angelina Kosynkina, Karina Zybaylo, Darya Bazhenova, Grigory Klimentyev, Pavel Lukashov, Oleg Stupkin, Artyom Kozlov, Aleksey Lunev, Sergey Goglov, Vladislav Lukyanov and Evgeniy Pashkin.
The competition consists of a team championship, individual combined events, and separate men and women finals.
Athletic eligibility:
- men – born in 2001 and older;
- women – born in 2003 and older;
- junior men – born in 2002-2005;
- junior women – born in 2004-2006.
Besides the sport events, spectators will have a chance to take pictures with mascots of the Russian Gymnastics Team – Gym the tiger and Nastica the bobcat, and participate in drawing of presents.
Reference. Mikhail Voronin – (1945-2004), a Soviet gymnast, two-times Olympic champion (1968), merited of sports of the USSR, honored coach of the USSR. He took positions of a deputy chairman of the USSR Gymnastics Federation (1973), the president of the RSFSR Gymnastics Federation (1978-1988), a senior coach (afterwards, a general coach) of the Central council of “Dynamo” (1973-1994). From 1992 he was the president of “Dynamo” gymnastics club.
