During the ceremony held at the "Diesel-Arena" sports and entertainment complex on Monday, March 2, 2020
the winners and prize-winners of last year's regional hockey tournament were awarded among the teams of post-secondary education institutions, as well as the regional stage of the all-Russian competition of the "Golden Puck" club.
"We are holding hockey competitions in the Penza Oblast as part of the regional Universiade for the second year," Ivan Belozertsev said. "Last year, the competition was intense, I was a devoted fan and supported all the teams at the same time. I was supporting all the athletes, the beautiful game and the development of hockey in our educational institutions".
"The President of the Russian Federation has set the task of developing mass sports, because it is from amateur teams that great athletes grow up who glorify our country at international competitions," he added. "Thank you for your dedication to sports! I thank the winners and prize-winners of the tournament, the management and students of educational institutions".
The Universiade of universities has been held in the Penza Oblast since 2006. Its program for the 2019-2020 academic year includes competitions in 14 sports (basketball, volleyball, boxing, badminton, sambo, athletics, cross-country skiing, mini-football, soccer, table tennis, swimming, chess, tug of war, hockey, and track and field relay). 5 university teams and 16 post-secondary institutions teams take part in the hockey tournament. The winning team will represent the region at the games of the Cup of Plenipotentiary of the RF President in the Volga Federal District which will take place in April in the Republic of Tatarstan.
