The Penza Oblast is being visited by a Russian Union of Sportsmen delegation, which includes famous sportsmen, USSR Olympic champions and prize-winners.
The delegation went to the Nizhnelomovsky district on November 23. Famous sportsmen including Nina Smolenkova, two-time Olympic champion in volleyball, Antonina Zelikovich, three-time Olympic champion in rowing, Irina Makogonova, Olympic champion in volleyball, Irina Sumnikova, Olympic champion in basketball, Galina Kuklyova, Olympic champion in biathlon, and headed by Natalya Boyarskaya, head of the "Olympic Stars for Children, Youth and Children's Sport in Russia" all-Russian charity programme, met the sports community of the Nizhnelomovsky district and discussed the prospectives of the fitness and sport's development. During the meeting, some outstanding people of the Nizhnelomovsky district's sports community were given diplomas of the Russian Union of Sportsmen.
Olympic champions' visit to the Penza Oblast was made possible as part of the "Olympic Stars for Children, Youth and Children's Sport in Russia" all-Russian charity programme. This programme is being implemented by the Russian Union of Sportsmen at the expense of the grant provided by the RF Ministry of Sport and of the support given by Yelena and Gennady Timchenko's Charity Fund.
The Programme's main tasks are to contribute to the implementation of the "Sport Is the Norm of Life" federal project of the "Demography" national project, to promote the healthy lifestyle, fitness and sports, as well as the Olympic ideals and values, the youth's patriotic upbringing, to motivate children and teenages to join in sports consciously, to provide more material and technical resources to children's sports institutions in small towns and villages.
The Russian Union of Sportsmen delegation visited more than 500 towns and more than 60 regions of Russia in the last six years.
Within a week the famous sportsmen are to visit two more municipal districts of the Penza Oblast - the Nikolsky district (November 24) and the Kamensky district (November 25). On November 26 the delegation will go to Penza.
