Last Saturday the all-Russian "Memory Cup" karate competition started at the "Voyeykov" wrestling arena in Penza. Representatives from 23 Russian regions came to Penza to demonstrate their skills.
Valery Savin, acting Vice-Governor of the Penza Oblast, addressed the participants of the competition.
"The Penza Oblast has created all the necessary conditions for the development of sports. We can see all kinds of martial arts on this wonderful sports arena today," he said.
This year, about 1000 athletes went to the tatami. Boys and girls, men and women strived for victory for two days.
"Competitions in this sport are held after a long break, during which most of the events were canceled. Now athletes have the opportunity to demonstrate all the best skills they have trained during this period. We have a good karate school that allows us to fight for prizes," - said Grigory Kabelsky, the Minister of Physical Culture and Sports.
The "Memory Cup" tournament is dedicated to people who were engaged in the development of karate in the Penza Oblast and were involved in it throughout their lives - V. Spiridonov, A. Cherepanov, A. Makarov, A. Krivtsov. The sports tradition in Penza has been maintained for several years – it is the third time the "Memory Cup" has brought the best karatekas to Penza, which confirms the high level of competitions.
