On February 19, a men's ski marathon took place at the the Olympic Games in Beijing. Aleksandr Bolshunov, Russian skier and the Penza State University student, finished first, crossing a distance of 28.4 km in 1 hour 11 minutes and 32.7 seconds.
The second place was taken by Ivan Yakimushkin (Russia), the third by Simen Kruger (Norway).
The race distance was shortened due to harsh weather conditions.
For Aleksandr, the marathon gold became the third Olympic medal of the highest standard. Earlier, Bolshunov won the skiathlon race and the men's relay, and also became the Olympic silver medalist in the 15 km race and won bronze in the team sprint.
