The team of the Penza Oblast made up of the players of the Lokomotiv-Penza rugby club won the All-Russian Sports Contest among the strongest athletes in rugby-7. The competition was held in Moscow from August 27 to 28.
In the quarterfinals, the Penza team prevailed over the rivals from the Rostov Oblast with a score of 24:7. Penza rugby players finished the semifinal match with a score of 24:12, having won a landslide victory over the St. Petersburg team. In the final match against the Krasnoyarsk team, the Penza Oblast team won with a score of 17:12.
The tournament was attended by teams representing 16 regions of the country: Lipetsk, Novosibirsk, Kaliningrad, Kursk, Omsk, Penza, Rostov, Moscow; Zabaikalsky Krai, Krasnodar Krai, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Perm Krai, the Republic of Dagestan and Tatarstan, St. Petersburg, and Moscow.
