Sofya Soluyanova and Ilya Zatylkin, athletes from the Penza Oblast, won gold medals of the World Sambo Championship. The competition was held in Armenia from October 14 to 16.
On the first day of the competition, Sofya Soluyanova had three fights. Sofya finished each of them with an early victory, which allowed her to earn gold. Sofya competed in the 47 kg weight category among participants aged 15-16.
Sofya is a student of the Bessonovsky district school, she is coached by Vitaly Soluyanov.
On October 16, Ilya Zatylkin, a student of the Rus sports school from Zarechny, took first place among juniors. In the final fight, he defeated an opponent from Kazakhstan. Ilya showed the best result in the 79 kg weight category. Ilya is coached by Igor Gritchin and Vladimir Gritchin.
In total, about 500 athletes from 20 countries took part in the World Sambo Championship.
