From November 1 to November 4, the world championship in all-round karate was held in Oryol. Representatives of the Penza Oblast took part in the competition, winning 6 medals—two gold, one silver, and three bronze awards.
Eldar Voronkov from the city of Zarechny won gold, beating his rivals in the discipline of kata wado-ryu (coach –V. Kh. Khachatryan)
In kumite competitions in the weight category up to 60 kg, Valeria Pilipenko, a student of the Olympic Sports School from Penza, finished the competition in fifth place (coach – A. N. Burmentiev).
In kata wado-ryu, five students of the Olympic Sports College from the city of Zarechny earned medals.
The age of Eldar Voronkov allowed him to perform also among juniors at the World Championship, where he won gold among participants aged 16-17. The silver medal was won by Andrey Mikhailov, and Nikita Ryzhov took the third place.
Olesya Sergeyeva won bronze among juniors aged 16-17.
Another bronze was won by Ekaterina Pashkevich, who competed among girls aged 14-15 (coach – V. Kh. Khachatryan).
In kumite competitions, Evgeny Larionov (coach – A.N. Burmentiev) and Vadim Rodionov (coach - V.A. Kastrygin entered the top five.
More than 1,600 athletes from 15 countries took part in the competition.
